A broad look at the HDR landscape currently, including the various schools of thought regarding its pro’s and con’s. The course has theoretical components to explain the color science being the SDR and HDR formats and includes viewing a wide range of HDR footage from various genres. This has been a very popular course attended by colorists, DITs, and cinematographers alike.

This course is taught in two versions: one focused for colorists, and one for cinematographers. The colorist version delves into all the fine detail of the artistic and technical grading methods used in HDR projects. The cinematographer version focuses mainly on the visual experience and storytelling potential of HDR. We look at how to expose and light with HDR in mind and discuss best practices on set and in post-production.
